#07 // Gabrielle Donadio

Alexandra Claire Morgan was born into a ‘seemingly’ loving home until around the age of 5. Her mother, Sandra Morgan went into a downhill spiral of alcoholism and drug use and ended up leaving her daughter and her husband for five years, for a life of adultery, drugs and abuse. During those five critical years Alex’s dad did his best to be both parents for a young girl, however his work load as a lawyer was strenuous and time consuming and Alex spent a lot of top hopping around different day cares. Feeling tossed and isolated, Alex began to act out in school for means of the attention she wasn’t getting at home. Because of this, her father decided to put her in soccer which turned out to be the best thing he could have done for Alex. However, after five years Alex’s mom came back having cleaned up her life and wanting a fresh start. Alex was completely broken by her mom’s choices and felt very betrayed when her dad so quickly accepted her back into their home. This made for a very toxic home life in which Alex became very bitter, angry and resentful. She couldn’t understand why or how her father could betray her in such a way, and no matter how hard her mother tried to regain her trust, Alex had already made up her mind about the entire dynamic and refused reconciliation, even though in the depths of her heart all she really wanted was her mother. Alex’s wounds and fear kept her from a loving home life and hardened her exterior.

Soccer:

Alex began playing soccer by the age of five and completely fell in love with the sport. It became an outlet for her to pour her love, energy and aggression into. The field became her safe place. That’s where she found her best friends, and her niche. Alex excelled in this sport at a higher level than the other girls, simply because she had no other outlet. This became her life and her passion, and something she is very protective over.

School:

Throughout elementary and middle school Alex continued to pour her hurt and frustration into the sport of soccer. Alex is naturally highly intelligent and mature for her age, and her grades are pretty average considering the lack of effort she puts in her academics. However, she focuses on her academics for the sole purpose of college soccer and scholarships. Her dream college is to play soccer at UC Santa Barbra, and that’s the core of a lot of her motivation. As a high school student Alex works hard to juggle soccer, her boyfriend Dan, and

her job. Alex works as at her dads immigration law firm filing papers and helping with organization. This has altered her frame of mind and world view as she is constantly flooded with political and personal tragedies locally.

Friendships:

Most, if not all of Alex’s friendship are founded and grounded within soccer. Her best friend, #14, has played soccer with her since she was a little girl and they fight and love like sisters. However, Alex struggles to find vulnerability within her relationships which can often cause a wedge between her and her teammates, even though deep down they are her world. Alex met her boyfriend of two years, Dan at a soccer tournament going into her freshman year. Outside of soccer Dan has been her only other safe place. She has a hard time expressing her feelings and accepting love in return but he is extremely patient with her and has a way of loving her through it.
